Gary Stroutsos - Recording Artist, composer, educator, and multi cultural artist of world based flute music.

A world music sound traveler whose passion and great respect for Cuban, Asian, Native American, and

Jazz flute styles underlie his own unique musical expression.

" I can almost hear the land ...the music dancing on different shores and the cry of the people inside these

flute melodies" says Gary, who has recorded and produced over 20 world instrumental recordings using

the  flutes of many cultures. These include the American Indian, Chinese Bamboo Xiao, Dize,

Contemporary Clay Aerophones, Silver Alto, and C concert flutes.

In 1997, his work has been showcased in the Ken Burns PBS documentary. Lewis and Clark : Journey

of the Corps of Discovery. This led to a command performance at the White House for President

Bill Clinton. " This was a great honor, said Gary, " to not only perform at the White House, but to

personally present Bill Clinton an American Native Indian flute crafted by my friend, Paul Thompson.

"Making Winds of Honor gave me a glimpse into the world of the American Indian through music" recalls Gary,

"this is a time that will never leave my heart ".

Spending time with Hunkpapa Lakota Sitting Bull people from the Standing Rock Sioux reservation

inspired his benchmark contemporary American Indian recording for Makoche  Records,

Winds of Honor.

Another highlight of his Makoche recordings found Gary lending his flute as a background to the

traditional spoken word stories of the American Indian for the recording, The Elders Speak.

Expanding his world music reach through the exploration of mystical Nigerian religious chants,

Stroutsos created the innovative CD, Oru - The Natural Order, with his friend Cuban music historian,

Danilo Lozano. Oru is unique in that it combines the spiritual essence of the Yoruba culture, by the way

of Cuban and American Indian aesthetics. The musical discovery here is that Afro-Cuban and American

can indeed enrich and compliment each other.
